Getting Comfortable in Room 28!

Our class is in charge of PIZZA TUESDAY SALES this Tuesday, September 11th!
A notice went home today asking for donations of individual drinks, snacks and baked goods.
Please look in their backpacks!
Your child can earn a $500 Slezinger Bonus for helping out!

HELP!
Please take a minute to talk to your child about the responsibility of completing their homework.
There have been quite a few missing assignments. We do not want to bog the students down with homework and we take this into consideration when assigning their nightly homework, however we do feel it is important to instill a sense of responsibility that will promote good work ethics throughout their lives. Please be supportive in setting up homework expectations with your child.

In Math, we worked on double and triple digit multiplication. We learned a few different ways to solve the problems so we can choose which way works best for us. Ask us to show you the different ways!

In Science, we completed our investigation of the Solar System, took a test on Wednesday and moved on to learn about how to conduct standardized science experiments.  We constructed swingers (pendulums) and designed an experiment to determine how many swings a 38 cm string with a bob mass of a penny and with a release point that was parallel to the table, would make. We determined it was about 12 swing cycles. You can watch the lesson by clicking HERE! We learned that a variable is anything that can change and that might affect the outcome of an experiment. Next week, we will change the variables and learn about independent and dependent variables and collecting and analyzing data.

In Social Studies with Mrs. Gallo, they began their study of the United States Constitution, getting ready for Constitution Day on Monday, September 17. Because we will not have school on the 17th, Constitution Day activities will be held on Friday, September 14th.

We made button bracelets to solidify our pledge to be "Bully Free" and promised to be aware of others who may be feeling left out or alone and make an attempt to include them! We are a room full of "world changers!"

In Language Arts, we learned about Main Idea and Supporting Details. We discussed the importance of developing strong supporting details. We continued to work on "Accountable Talk" with a class discussion about Maya Lin and her incredible talent in designing memorials that incorporate all the senses, like the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and The Civil Rights Memorial. We worked in groups to determine the main idea and supporting details of some descriptive pictures. Look for the finished products on here soon.
