Brief descriptions of specific standards below!
In Math, we studied place value from the billions place to the ten thousandths place! We learned a few games to help us retain this concept. Some are available at Pearson Math and others your child can teach you! Next week's standard will be Adding and Subtracting Decimals!
In Language Arts, we studied character and setting. We discussed how a person's character and the setting in which the story takes place, effects the story's meaning. We learned that in room 28, we use accountable talk and respond positively to the comments of others. Even when we disagree. Ask them to give you an example of this! Next week's standard will be Inferences and continuing to delve into Character and Setting!
In Science, we began by determining what the BIG IDEA was for our unit, The Water Planet. We then studied the objects of the Solar System, by comparing distance from the sum, orbit period, diameter, composition, and surface temperature! We found many correlations. We discussed where the Asteroid Belt and the Kuiper Belt were located. We also discussed why Pluto was now considered a dwarf planet! They can share their knowledge with you using the cards we used in class at Solar System Trading Cards. Ask them to explain! Next week, we will experiment with gravity!
In Social Studies, with Mrs. Gallo, they studied explorers and their journeys over to settle new lands. They also began to work on the United States states and capitals. There are many fun games to help you learn by clicking on Useful Links in the left column!
In Health, with Mrs. Gallo, they began to learn about making Healthful choice and the benefits this will have on their lives!
In Art, we studied Pablo Picasso and created an Abstract Self portrait using the mediums of oil pastel and watercolor. You will be able to see them displayed at Back To School Night this Tuesday from 6-7 PM! Next we will study pattern and power in art!
