Diego #15
Hello this Diego Reporting for News of Room 28. First thing we did in the morning was P.E. I wasn't there so I don't know what kind of exercise they did. After P.E class, they went to Music class. I came in the middle of the class. They were singing the President's song and it goes like this " Who are the Presidents of the United States. Who are the Presidents who help make this country great" "Thank you, Thank you". During recess I went to play soccer. The score was 2-1. We had scored one goal. Julian was close to the goal, then he got closer and finally he kicked the ball and it makes the crowd go wild "yeah yeah". when soccer was over there was a BIG FUSS about who won the game but it was a tie. After that our teacher Mrs. Slezinger said "C'mon guys". We moved on to do Math. We were learning Distributive Property 5-4. I understood a little but then I got the hang of it. Also, at first people did not understand but later they got the hang of it. The song called Count on me went off while we were cleaning up. But guess what! We did not beat the song on time. We still had to stay in class because we talked to much during math time. I had to go to a Student Council Meeting. We were talking about how to make our campus cleaner and better. We hardly talked to each other because we were all shy. Once I finished with my meeting, I went to my soccer game. When I got to the field, people were fighting about who would get the penalty kick. I was afraid that they were going to get into a fight. But they didn't."PHEW". Next, we went straight to the Computer Lab. We worked on our Power Points. The topic was about 5 Truths and a lie. I hope you guys get them correct "heh heh". Afterwards, we went to Health class which Mrs. Gallo teaches. We were taking our health test which I think I did very well on! Then I study my States and Capitals while other people finished their test. Now I know 42 Capitals. Finally, we wrote down our homework for today and left home. Well that's all for today. OR IS IT!!

In the morning at 8:00, we went to do 3 laps around the field for our morning run. We were sweaty, but when we went into our classroom, it was so refreshing. We unpacked our heavy backpacks and got out our Language Arts stuff. We took out a correcting pen and our Practice Book. We, the students and the teacher corrected pg.80 together. Some people didn’t do the homework and got a HAM, that’s when you don’t do your homework. After that was finished, we copied them down in our yellow journal. We then corrected them on our journals. Then, some people went to the board and corrected them from their point of view. Some people got all of the mistakes, and others got most of them too, but not all. When we finished that, the teacher acted mad and named what she did, or what she looked like. There were about 4-5 things that we came up with, besides what she was saying. When that was over, we had 5 min. to write about the expression,” She’s tired.” We had to write about 5-8 sentences, so we had to hurry! There were a lot of great stories and ideas. When we finished that, we read and did a Cause and Effect on a story called, “To California.” We came up with lots of ideas and wrote them down on our Language Arts journal. Not long after, we played a game called, “Cause and Effect.” It is a card where there a cause, plus an effect on one side. You have to guess which one is the cause, and which one is the effect. We read the story, “Valley of the Moon”, and we only had time to make 2 Cause and Effect ideas. We put everything away and got out our Math stuff. The bell for recess had rung, and the President (Orion) called us, table by table to line up for recess. After recess, we corrected our math homework. Then, she gave us a problem that might make us stubborn and don’t know what to do, that’s when the teacher teaches it to us. We did a problem with the teacher to make sure we understand what she taught us. We did the assignment that the teacher gave us and worked with the people that needed help understanding. The bell rang for lunch, so we put everything away and the President dismissed the kids to line up for lunch. After lunch, the teacher read one chapter of a book called, “HADDIX.” We then finished watching the movie, “Born to be Wild.” When the movie ended, we copied our homework down and packed up. When we finished packing up, the bell rang for, “SCHOOL’S OVER!!!!!”

In the morning, we had psychomotor. We ran our laps, did our exercises and built our strength by doing push-ups, sit-ups and planks.
After that, we went to an assembly for the magazine drive. One of the prizes you can win is penguins.
Then we went back to our classroom. We reviewed our science and watched a funny video with characters without legs, arms or necks. Then the song went off, it was This is Your Life, by Switchfoot.
At recess I hung out with Bailey and Maddie. Then the bell went off and we went back to class.
During math, we learned about compatible numbers, we also found out that on Monday, we would get a new student, Jake. We had to make him a welcome card with a picture on the back. Then the lunch song went off, it was Count on Me, by Bruno Mars.
Again at lunch I hung out with Bailey and Maddie. The bell went off and we went back to class.
We had to do two questions from our floppy. We also had to finish our index card for Jake. Then Mrs. Slezingers’s daughter, Haley, came in.
We started working on our hand art. We had to use paint powder for the background that our hands were going to go on. We also had to think of a power word that our hands reminded us of. When we finished our hands, Mrs. Slezinger and I, just realized that I was roving reporter! So Danell and Bella had to remind me of what we did during the day.
We had to pack up and be out of the classroom at exactly 2:30pm.

Hi, there! My name is Izzy and today I am your Roving Reporter!
First, when everyone got to school in the morning, Mrs. Slezinger lead the class over to the backstops to run laps. But Maddie and I skipped one lap because it was Mrs. Hauser’s birthday and we had to give her the special card that we planned to make for the old room twenty-five to sign their names on. Happy birthday, Mrs. Hauser!!!!
When we got back to class Mrs. Slezinger started us off with a Bruno Mars song called Count on me when we unpacked. We have to beat the music in order for us to get an X. Although we didn’t get one, we’ll try to, tomorrow morning.
Next, we started doing our daily morning rotation. There is a blue group, orange group, and green group. Can you guess what group I’m in? Yep! I’m in the green group! Today green had Mrs. Slezinger and Mrs. Gallo. After finishing Mrs. Slezinger’s part of rotation, the clean up song went off for recess. When our new class president, Orion came up to dismiss us he gave us a deal. If we stayed silent in the silent zone while we walk in line for the next six days, we will have popsicles on Friday. I guess the deal motivated us to stay quiet because it was completely silent! Once we got to the yard April, Lacey, Lauren, Victoria, and I were rehearsing the preamble for our test in social studies. When I finally lost my nerve to go play, everyone literally kept FOLLOWING ME! The bell rang for the lower grade’s recess to start.
Orion took us back to the classroom and we started to do some math. The teacher finally gave us a break from compatible numbers! But, she did help some people who DESPARATLEY needed it. Surprisingly, we didn’t do any lessons in math. We just did some math games with partners. My partner was Chaerin and in my opinion, she was an amazing partner. It was really funny because when we rolled the die I kept getting a seven and Chaerin kept getting a six! It was definitely not our lucky day!
The clean up song finally went off and everyone began to get out their social studies for after lunch rotations. As we walked to lunch we passed Mrs. Hauser and at the same time, April and I called out, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!” after that Orion shushed us. April, Meghan, and I went to go study the constitution even more. Then, out of the blue, Meghan had a laughing fit! It was hilarious! Our lunch was over by then and we walked to the cold, air-conditioned classroom. Ahhhh… cold air.
Mrs. Slezinger began reading that awesome book of hers, Among the Hidden for about ten minutes. Mrs. Gallo said she was ready for us to switch classes. I got so nervous for the test but then I started feeling confident. Mrs. Gallo called us out to say the preamble. The test was over and we began to make flashcards for the fifty states. Time was up and we went back to room 28 for science. We corrected our science homework and started working on pendulums and swingers, but nobody really understood.
It was time to clean up and get out our agenda books and write down our homework. The majority of the class was done writing so I opened the closets and school ended. This is Izzy, today’s roving reporter saying, “Adios, amigos!”

By: Chaerin # 23Hi, this is Roving Reporter Chaerin with some exciting reports! Today we are going to explore an adventurous day as a fifth grader in Mrs. Slezinger’s class. This is going to be an exciting exploration.
When I arrived at school, the first thing we did was line up in line order to take our pictures for our school year book. When it was my turn for taking pictures I was really scared. I was scared just in case I come out weird. After everyone in my class took pictures, we took a group picture outside. Afterwards, we had P.E. but all we did was walk 2 laps! When I went into my classroom, my real adventure began. The first thing we did was unpack and turn our homework in. Then, we took our reading comprehension test. It was very easy. During the test, Mrs. Slezinger said, “Who is Roving Reporter today?” Since I was Roving Reporter today I said, “I am!” When I finished the test I started writing what we did so far in the day for Roving Reporter. After everyone finished the test, Mrs. Slezinger taught us how to do an art project. Here were the steps:
1. Trace your left hand and your right hand on 2 different graph paper
2. Make designs on it
3. Trace it with a white crayon
When it was 9:42 a.m., the music started so we can put everything away and get your supplies out for math. During recess we played pizza, it is the same thing as shark but we just like to call it pizza. Finally, the bell rang so we lined up and walked to our classroom. When we got to our classroom, we started our vocabulary test. When I finished, I continued working on my art project. When it was 11:00, Mrs. Slezinger started teaching us math. She taught us how to divide mentally in your head. In the middle of math, the music “Count on Me’’ turned on so we can clean up our math and get our Health supplies out. During lunch, we continued our game pizza(shark). Once again, we lined up and went to our classroom. When we got in our classroom, Mrs. Slezinger read us our one and only Among the Hidden. Afterwards, we switched for Health. We learned about our emotions and what you should do when that happens. Then we played a game about what we learned with Mrs. Gallo. When we got back back from Health, we did Science. We reviewed what we did the day before and took a little quiz. Since there was a little time, we continued our art project. Finally, we wrote our homework, packed up, and went home.
So that was a little peak into my adventurous day of exploration!

Roving Reporter – Zachary”
By: Zachary, 10, September 12, 2012
Hi this is Zachary reporting from West Hills on the news of Welby Way today, September 12, 2012. First I started my day with my Mom waking me up and telling me to get up and get ready. After I got ready I had breakfast which today was raisin cinnamon toast and juice. After that I packed up my backpack and got into the car.
Once I got into class then we started rotation. I went to Mrs. Slezinger for 45 minutes then went to Mrs. King for spelling and vocabulary for another 45 minutes. Then we went to recess there I played soccer and then talked to Haiyan. After that then we lined up to go back to class and I got in line I dismissed everyone to go inside because I was President today. When we got back to our seats we did math. After learning math we went to lunch. I ate my lunch with my friends and then I went to play, I played soccer again. After lunch was over we lined up again and we went to Mrs. Gallo for Social Studies and we learned about the Constitution, The Preamble, the founding fathers who created the Constitution and we also watched a video about the Constitution then we cleaned up to go back to Mrs. Slezinger and we learned more about the “swinger”(pendulum). We had different sizes of string and we swung the “swinger” (pendulum) and saw who swung the most. After that we packed up to go home and I went to the auditorium and watched TV and did some of my homework until my Mom picked me up from school.
Now I am at home and I’m doing the rest of my homework and going to have dinner with my family. I ended up with too much homework to work on so I didn’t get to go see “Magic Bob” at Sierra’s. I guess I better do more homework after school.

I want to write a summary about 9/10/12 and I hope you will like it. Today we did things a little differently. In the morning we did language arts rotations and I had to go to Mrs. King’s class first, then Mrs. Gallo’s class and finally I went to Mrs. Slezinger’s class but I didn’t do language arts with her. After recess we did math and in math we did a little multiplication, next we did exponents and most people didn’t understand at first, but later on everyone understood what to do and it got very easy. After lunch we rotated for social studies and science. In social studies we talked about the constitution and we had to answer a question about the constitution. When we rotated back we did science. In science we did an awesome experiment on swingers, and took notes in our journals and I liked it because it was fun. I hope you enjoyed my summary.

It was Friday today and it was a good day, I’m going to share about what happened that day. I woke up in the morning to get ready for school. When I got to school everyone had to do 2 morning laps. Next we got in line to go to the classroom. What we first did in the classroom was to unpack before we got to work. Mrs.Slezinger said to take out our practice books and we had 20minutes to finish our pages. I only got to do one page so I didn’t really finish it all. After that MRS.Slezinger said to give Hailey the practice books to be corrected so I was embarrassed about my work. The classroom had to do a comprehension test. If the student was not quiet they would get zero on their test MRS.Slezinger said to everyone. The test went well for me and it was quiet in the classroom so I thought everyone was good with their test. Then everyone got in groups and my group is number 4 and I’m the leader of group 4, the people working in group 4 were Lior, Izzy, and Keane. Simon was supposed to come but he in absent. All groups had to describe and discuss about a picture so since I was the leader I got to pick what picture my group should describe about. So I picked the penguins’ picture. It was pretty hard to describe. After that we had recess. After recess room 28 didn’t’ get to see the animal show so I forgot about it. When math started we were learning about estimating with multiplying. When that was over we started getting in line for lunch. I was wondering that everyone that was eating looked happy to me but so I felt good about it. Afterwards when lunch was over MRS.Slezinger read a chapter of the Hadixx book. MRS. Slezinger read another book called Moon boy and we discussed about the story. We learn that about is that when there is a friend that needs one be one. SO we made these bracelets to remind also not to bully.

“Roving Reporter – Jennifer”
By: Jennifer No.7 August 30, 2012
Hi, I am Jennifer and I am going to tell you what happened in room 28 on August 30, 2012.
The first thing my class and I planned to do was get in a nice quiet line so we can earn an X on the chart in our classroom and this will surprise Mrs. Slezinger. We had to get in a neat line and not disturb the other classes. It took a long time but we made it. When we entered the refreshing classroom, Mrs. Slezinger put on a song to see we can unpack before the song finished. During the song, the announcements went on and we did the pledge of allegiance to the flag. After that, Mrs. Yoo told the school some important things for the day.
Once we finished unpacking, we got out our Treasures Book and read “Shiloh”. Shiloh is a story about a dog that was abused by its owner and another family tries to cure the dog and stop the owner from abusing the dog. From 9:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Nico’s mom came to our classroom with bags of tangerines. My classmates and I shared the tangerines with Nico and said goodbyes to him because he is going to transfer to a different school next Wednesday. We also gathered around to take a picture with Nico. After that, we went inside and decided to write cards for him. We didn’t finish but we hope we will finish them before Nico leaves so we can give it to him. Bang, Bang, Bang … the sound of the bell went on I was happy for a little rest and something to eat. When I got outside I smelled the fresh air and got in line. Mrs. Slezinger told us to get back inside because we were too loud. Again, we tried to get in line and this time it was better, so we started walking to the yard. When we got to the yard, I went to go eat my snack at the cafeteria tables. Bang, Bang, Bang… recess was over. Next, we got in line and when Mrs. Slezinger came to pick us up she was kind of upset because a lot of us were talking and siting on the benches. Anyways we got to class and reviewed for the math test. During the review Mrs. Slezinger sang the song “Line up those decimals and start to compare”. Once that was done, we stared the math test. The song got stuck in my head throughout the test so I think I did a pretty good job. Ring Ring Ring … that was the lunch bell. We grabbed our lunch money and lunch boxes and headed out the door. This time our lines were much better so we started walking. Wait a minute I forgot the lunch bin so I asked Chaerin if she wanted to help me and she said, “Yes, I would love to.” Chaerin and I started walking back to the classroom and we both took the lunch bin all the way to the area where it all goes. We both walked to a shady clean spot and we met Danell, Madi, and Eden and we started talking about what we did so far in the day. After lunch, we walked into Mrs. Gallo’s class and we had a conversation about what are long term goals and short term goals and how important they are. Mrs. Gallo passed out a card so we could write our goals on it, why we want that goal, and how are we going to do it. Following, Mrs. Gallo passed out another piece of paper and she said we had to write adjectives about us and it was due next Thursday. When we walked back to our original classroom we started doing science in science we watched a video about the solar system. It was almost the end of the day so we cleaned up and Brianna gave us goody bags and we sang Happy Birthday to her. This is the end of our amazing day.
